Not many people are aware here in the West that there is still a tradition of both knights and dames receiving honors from the Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II for those doing service to their community or national life.
To be a true knight and called legally “sir” or a dame, you have to simply be knighted by the Queen. Anyone else who claims to be a true knight, sir or dame may actually be breaking international law. End of story.

Angelina Jolie is a real dame — and now she has the title to prove it.
The Oscar-winning actress got yet another accolade Friday when Britain’s Queen Elizabeth dubbed her an honorary dame — the female version of a knight.
Jolie might actually have preferred the male title, since the raven-haired beauty has made riding to the rescue of the less fortunate a major part of her adult life. The sultry star has been a United Nations special envoy for years.
She received the honor Friday for her work combating sexual violence in war zones.
“To receive an honor related to foreign policy means a great deal to me, as it is what I wish to dedicate my working life to,” the A-lister said after co-hosting a four-day summit at The Hague on sexual violence.
