“Alchemy has never been about working with metals such as turning real lead into shiny gold. These are allegories and metaphors to Quote - in the beginning was the worddescribe the true human alchemical process which has always been about the spiritual transformation of the soul.

It is the transmutation from lead which would be your body and ego into gold which would represent your soul and spirit. Your higher self.

This is the path. The Great Work in which we Gnostics and philosophers practice with an aim of achieving ultimate wisdom as well as immortality.”

In his 1766 Alchemical Catechism, Théodore Henri de Tschudi explains that metals were a symbol and that transmutation of lead into gold is presented as an analogy for personal transmutation, purification, and perfection:

“Q. When the Philosophers speak of gold and silver, from which they extract their matter, are we to suppose that they refer to the vulgar gold and silver?

A. By no means; vulgar silver and gold are dead, while those of the Philosophers are full of life.

In the eyes of a variety of esoteric and Hermetic practitioners, Transmutation of lead into gold is presented as an analogy for personal transmutation, purification, and perfection. This approach is often termed ‘spiritual’, ‘esoteric’, or ‘internal’ alchemy.”
