One Common Soul

Virgil understood the soul of the world, which is not only diffused through all human bodies, but, as it were, through all the parts of the universe. He writes;

“The heaven and earth’s compacted frame,

And flowing waters, and the starry flame,

And both the radiant lights, one common soul,

Inspires, and feeds, and animates the whole.

This active mind diffused through all space,

Unites and mingles with the mighty mass.”
