Masonry is a religious and philosophic body

In the quote below, 33rd Degree Freemason and Gnostic philosopher, Manly P. Hall talks about the rank and file of present-masonic symbolsday Masons who strenuously oppose any effort put forth to interpret Masonic symbols in the light of philosophy. He also states that Masonry is a religious and philosophic body.

These simple facts are only known by the wise Masonic philosophers who have taken the time to study the true history and symbols of the craft.

The word philosophy simply means the lover of wisdom. So essentially what Hall is saying is that most Masons oppose wisdom in the interpretation of the Craft’s symbols, and many of their teachings. They instead choose ignorance and intellectual apathy over the wise truth.

These words by Hall were written well over 50 years ago, and they still ring true today. As it has been said by a wise philosopher, “there is nothing new under the sun…”

Manly P. Hall had said, “An obstacle well-nigh insurmountable is to convince the Mason himself that the secrets of his Craft are worthy of his profound consideration. As St. Paul, so we are told, kicked against the “pricks” of conversion, so the rank and file of present-day Masons strenuously oppose any effort put forth to interpret Masonic symbols in the light of philosophy. Masonry is a religion seeking to unite God and man

(By 33rd Degree Freemason, Manly P. Hall) – When the mob governs, man is ruled by ignorance; when the church governs, he is ruled by superstition; All seeing eyeand when the state governs, he is ruled by fear. Before men can live together in harmony and understanding, ignorance must be transmuted into wisdom, superstition into an illumined faith, and fear into love.

Despite statements to the contrary, Masonry is a religion seeking to unite God and man by elevating its initiates to that level of consciousness whereon they can behold with clarified vision the workings of the Great Architect of the Universe.

From age to age the vision of a perfect civilization is preserved as the ideal for mankind. In the midst of that civilization shall stand a mighty university wherein both the sacred and secular sciences concerning the mysteries of life will be freely taught to all who will assume the philosophic life. In Masonry the sun has many symbols

In Masonry the sun has many symbols. One expression of the solar energy is Solomon, whose name SOL-OM-ON is the name for the sun symbol masonrySupreme Light in three different languages.

Hiram Abiff, the CHiram (Hiram) of the Chaldees, is also a solar deity, and the story of his attack and murder by the Ruffians, with its solar interpretation, will be found in the chapter The Hiramic Legend. A striking example of the important part which the sun plays in the symbols and rituals of Freemasonry is given by George Oliver, D.D., in his Dictionary of Symbolical Masonry, as follows: (more…)

Hand of the Mysteries

“The hand of the Mysteries controlled in the establishment of the new government, for the signature of the Mysteries may still be seen on the Great Seal of the United States of America. The signature of the Mysteries is the ‘apotheosis’ of man.” – Manly P. Hall Secret Teachings of All Ages.Hand of the mysteries

The Hand of the Mysteries goes by many other names, including the Hand of the Philosopher, the Hand of the Master Mason, and the Emblematic Hand of Mysteries. On each finger, you will find a unique symbol. The thumb has a crown, the index with a star, the middle finger with a sun, the ring finger with a lantern, and the pinky with a key.

When Manly P. Hall speaks of the hand of the Mysteries controlled in the establishment of the new government; what he means by this is that they wield the power of God’s authority at the right hand, which is represented in our Great Seal.

The symbology found on the back of the dollar bill, with the pyramid, the all-seeing eye, the pentagram, the eagle (Jupiter) and the hexagram reference, points to the MASONS and indicates the role of Freemasons, in not only building Solomon’s Temple in the New World or New Atlantis, but also the transformation of lead into gold, or more appropriately, man into a god. Hence, “In God We Trust.”Dollar Mason

Manly P. Hall said this about the Freemason’s role in the forming of the U.S.A.; “Not only were many of the founders of the United States government Masons, but they received aid from a secret and august body existing in Europe which helped them to establish this country for a peculiar and particular purpose known only to the initiated few.

The Great Seal is the signature of this exalted body—unseen and for the most part unknown—and the unfinished pyramid upon its reverse side is a trestleboard setting forth symbolically the task to the accomplishment of which the United States Government was dedicated from the day of its inception.”

In Dan Brown’s novel “The Lost Symbol,” the Hand of Mysteries had played a large part of the subject matter in the book, and the story also happens to take place in a Masonic-built city, Washington D.C. The main character is master symbologist Robert Langdon who discovers the Hand of Mysteries but is physically re-created when the Mason villian, Mal’akh severs his Grand Master, Peter Solomon’s right hand which is covered with tattoos.Lost Symbol Mal__akh

Mal’akh then places it in the rotunda of the capital that houses a peculiar painting called the “Apotheosis of Washington,” which depicts Freemason and our first President of the US, George Washington as the God Zeus or Jupiter. Langdon then realizes that Solomon’s severed hand has been tattooed to resemble “the Hand of the Mysteries.” Hence, George Washington sits at “God’s right hand” as his SO BELOW representative on earth, in which he symbolically points to the AS ABOVE.

George Washington Freemason God

In ancient mythology, the symbol of the right hand had always signified power and Jupiter. To sit at the right hand of God, had meant to wield the divine power of God on earth. Apollo was the god of light, truth and prophecy, healing, plague, music, poetry, and more. He was the favorite son of  Jupiter, father of gods and men, and he sat at the right hand of his father.

An interesting note is the choice of the United States government depiction of Apollo 11 for their NASA moon landing space program, which happened to have the famous Freemason astronaut, Edwin E. Aldrin (Buzz Aldrin) on board. He was said to be a 32° Mason at the time of the moon landing, and also the man who had planted the American flag on the moon’s surface. After his historic landing, he had visited the Scottish Rite headquarters at the House of the Temple in Washington, and brought back the Freemasonic flag that he took with him to the moon. In the Old Testament, the right hand is spoken of in regards to Jehovah, it denotes his Divine power, or Omnipotence. Moses saw the fiery law on God’s right hand. In the New Testament, and sitting at God’s right hand is Jesus Christ as the God-man, and the divine Mediator of the New Covenant with the power of God. (1Co 1:24)

He possesses all power in heaven and on earth. (Mt 28:18) And he sits on the right hand of God (Eph 1:20; Col 3:1; 1Pe 3:22; Heb 1:3; Heb 8:1; Heb 10:12; Heb 12:2) Peter 3:22 “Who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him.” The Archangel Michael is also often referred to as “the Right Hand of God;” and at the last day, to the Right Hand of God will pass the elect.

Here is a more ancient depiction of the Hand of the Mysteries in “Antiquitas explanatione et schematibus illustrata.”

33rd Degree Freemason and Master Rosicrucian, Manly P. Hall further explains the importance of this symbol to initiates of the Secret Mysteries;

“The original drawings from which this plate was taken is designated the hand of the philosopher which is extended to those who enter into the mysteries. When the disciple of the Great Art first beholds this hand, it is closed, and he must discover a method of opening it before the mysteries contained therein may be revealed.

In alchemy the hand signifies the formula for the preparation of the tincture physicorum. The fish is mercury and the flame-bounded sea in which it swims is sulfur, while each of the fingers bears the emblem of a Divine Agent through combined operations of which the great work is accomplished.

The unknown artist says of the diagram: “The wise take their oath by this hand that they will not teach the Art without parables.” To the Qabbalist the figure signifies the operation of the One Power [the crowded thumb] in the four worlds (the fingers with their emblems).

Besides its alchemical and Qabbalistic meanings, the figure symbolizes the hand of a Master Mason with which he “raises” the martyred Builder of the Divine House. Philosophically, the key represents the Mysteries themselves, without whose aid man cannot unlock the numerous chambers of his own being.

The lantern is human knowledge, for it is a spark of the Universal Fire captured in a man-made vessel; it is the light of those who dwell in the inferior universe and with the aid of which they seek to follow in the footsteps of Truth. The sun, which may be termed the ” light of the world,” represents the luminescence of creation through which man may learn the mystery of all creatures which express through form and number.

The star is the Universal Light which reveals cosmic and celestial verities. The crown is Absolute Light– unknown and unrevealed–whose power shines through all the lesser lights that are but sparks of this Eternal Effulgence. Thus is set forth the right hand, or active principle, of Deity, whose works are all contained within the” hollow of His hand.

The alchemical symbol of apotheosis, the transformation of man into god, is traditionally represented by an image of a hand with other symbols, including skulls, crowns, stars, fish, keys, lanterns, astrological symbols and the all-seeing eye.

A hand covered with numerous symbols was extended to the neophytes when they entered into the Temple of Wisdom. An understanding of the embossed upon the surface of the hand brought with it Divine power and regeneration Therefore, by means of these symbolic hands the candidate was said to be raised from the dead.” (From the Secret Teachings of All Ages)

A Mason cannot be ordained or elected by ballot

Let it be said that not every Freemason is a true Mason of the heart, or an immortal member of the OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAGreat Brotherhood of the divine elect of philosophers. Many Bros are simply Masons of the material world who are what Manly P. Hall called in The Secret Teaching of All Ages, “who are brethren in name only.”

This fact explains the reality that most Masons who join the craft are what Hall says are “unresponsive to the teachings and purpose of Freemasonry.” (more…)
