(SOURCE: Midnight Freemasons – James E Frey, 32°) – My Brethren, one of the most mysterious symbols within our society is the mythical All Seeing Eye we receive in the third degree of the 
Ancient Craft. This symbol in ritual is mentioned as “the All seeing eye whom the sun, moon, and stars obey, and under whose watchful care comets perform their stupendous revolutions, beholds the inmost recesses of the human heart, and will reward us according to our works.” In ritual this reminds us of the obligation we owe to God, not in any religious context, but to the universality of God and mankind. As Masons the eye has had many meanings throughout our long rich history. But the true understanding and deeper meaning is a revelation of the meaning of the Master Mason’s degree.
Albert Mackey writes that the All Seeing Eye is “An important symbol of the Supreme Being, borrowed by the Freemasons from the nations of antiquity.” The All Seeing Eye is a symbol representing the watchful gaze of God. It reminds us that every thought and action is to be recorded by the Grand Architect of the Universe, and that we are bound to our obligations in spirit as well as in blood.
As Masons we are to act upon the square of virtue and keep our passions in due bounds, that is what we swore to uphold on our honor as a man and a mason. This is the general exoteric explanation for this symbol in modern masonry. This is because the eye was adopted into Masonry in 1797 in Thomas Webb’s Official Freemason’s Monitor. The Masons during the enlightenment era referred to this as the Eye of Providence, which represents God’s gaze over humanity. They saw it as a symbol to represent unity of religious denominations in this new era of enlightenment which ended the dark ages and gave birth to modern democracy. (more…)

CHARGE TO THE MASTER OF THE SECOND VEIL
The initiation ritual to this degree re-enacts the return to Jerusalem of three Most Excellent Masons who were held captive in Babylon.
Companion :—I invest you with the purple banner, which is the ensign of your office, and arm you with a sword, to enable you to maintain its honor. The color of your banner is produced by a due mixture of blue and scarlet; the former of which is the characteristic color of the symbolic or first three degrees of masonry, and the latter, that of the royal arch degree. Below is an excerpt from a great article on Discovery.com titled, First Evidence of Viking-Like ‘Sunstone’ Found. In the article it describes a special stone called a “calcite crystal“ that the Vikings had possibly used for navigation before the invention of the magnetic compass in the 16th century.
Special stones and rocks have always had a significant meaning to the Brotherhood. From the cornerstone of Jesus Christ, to the foundation of Peter the rock in which the Catholic Church was built, and to the Stone of Scone in which many Kings have been ordained. These stories were passed down to us by our ancestors because these very specific stones had a significant meaning to them and it was the life force they had contained that was so special.
One of these secret life forces is known in the occult world as Lucifer. Lucifer in alchemy is truly just an occult name for a naturally occurring chemical element in nature and life called “phosphorus.” The calcite crystal of course contains inorganic phosphate with the effect explained in terms of the initial formation of two-dimensional nuclei between adsorbed phosphate ions on the steps of the crystals. Some of our ancestors had many customs in the past that today many people would find them appalling. One of these customs was drinking blood from a skull.
In the time of Herodotus, it was was said that the Issedones decorated with gold the skulls of their dead relatives and then had used them as drinking cups. The Anglo Saxons had drank the blood out of the skulls of their dead foes and it is in Valhalla, that Thor and Odin proclaim they will drink blood from the skulls of their slain enemies.
The picture above is from an article titled, “Earliest Directly-Dated Human Skull-Cups.” This is an actual ancient skull that was found by scientists at Gough’s Cave in Somerset, UK and it is said to be the oldest ever found at approximately 14,700 years old. This find is an obvious indicator that verifies this skull and blood drinking practice and it may prove what land these tribes had originally spawned from. (more…)
