He erected the pillars at the portico of the temple. The pillar to the south he named Jakin and the one to the north Boaz. – 1 Kings 7:21

One of the most prolific symbols and allegorical key figures that you will find in freemasonry are the two pillars of Boaz and Jachin. The reason that you will always find these pillars in association with freemasonry is because they are the custodians of the Temple of Solomon.

It is both Boaz and Jachin whom are represented as masons that were employed in the building the world-wide temple of the Universal Church under their great master, Hiram Abiff. To honor this occasion, an immortal symbol of their work was created and these two pillars were respectively consecrated.

It is pretty easy to understand this allegory based just on the paragraph above. These two pillars are simply symbolic of the Freemasons whom are the builders of the Temple of Solomon in which they complete the work in building this temple under their Grand Master, HiRam Abiff.

Please keep in mind that when I refer to the Temple of Solomon, I’m not speaking about an actual physical building, but a spiritual world wide structure of human souls who are the living stones, AKA Masons in building the Temple. This is key to understanding the mystery.

It is said that in the degree of perfect master that the two pillars of Boaz and Jachin are fixed crossways and the candidate is asked ” Are you a perfect master ? Where the candidate answers “I have seen the circle and the square enclosing the two columns.

The two pillars of Boaz and Jachin were two copper, brass or bronze pillars which stood in the porch of Solomon’s Temple, the first Temple in Jerusalem.  Boaz stood on the left and Jachin (‘founding’, Tiberian Hebrew יָכִין Yāḵîn) stood on the right which we can see id detailed in 2 Chronicles 3:17 – “He (HiRam Abiff) erected the pillars in the front of the temple, one to the south and one to the north. The one to the south he named Jakin and the one to the north Boaz.”

In Revelation 3:12 we will find the promises that were made to Boaz and Jachin. “Him who overcomes I will make a pillar in the temple of my God. Never again will he leave it. I will write on him the name of my God and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem, which is coming down out of heaven from my God; and I will also write on him my new name.”

Now all we have to do is ask ourselves is who or what does Boaz and Jachin represent?

All these names are allegorical in nature. Meaning that there is a spiritual hidden meaning behind these names which say one thing and mean another. In studying Boaz, you will find various meanings like ‘Strength, swiftness.’ Jachin meaning ” He will establish.”

What does Boaz mean?

When I researched further, I  had also found that Boaz was the son of Salmon, a descendant of Nahshon and the leader of the tribe of Judah during the years of the wanderings in the desert. In the book of Ruth closes up with the genealogy of King David who is the great grand-son of Boaz and from this blood line, we have his son Solomon and then later came Jesus Christ. Therefor, the pillar of Boaz represents as the Tribe of Judah through the Blood line of  King David, King Solomon and down to Jesus Christ. You can see this geanology in Mattew 1:1-17 which details “The Genealogy of Jesus the Messiah.”

Here is a great explanation that essentially agrees with my statement above via the book titled, “Proceedings of the Grand Lodge of Colorado of the Most Ancient and Honrable,”  Volumes 38-39  By Freemasons. Grand Lodge of Colorado;

“And he, Solomon, erected the left pillar and called its name B,” denoting strength. (1 Kings vli., verse 21.) It could never have been the object of Solomon to convey only the idea of strength, as that word in Hebrew is * * “Oz” and with the prefix * * (Bo) makes it read “in strength.”

The proper translation from the Hebrew text is: “And he called it by its name Boaz, namely by me name of that celebrated Boaz mentioned in the Book of Ruth as a great and valiant man.” There Is no question that for the two-fold reason, to denote strength as well as to do honor to the memory of this eminent ancestor of Solomon, that this pillar was called “Boaz.”

As to its meaning, we should know that the Hebrew name generally expresses either an attribute of God or the character of the person. According to this rule, the meaning of Boaz is, “In him is strength,” which here may be applied to God and man (Boaz). (Prov., xxiv., 5.) In the wise man is strength. Wherever in Scripture the term wise is used in connection with man, It generally alludes to that superior spiritual wisdom which testifies of his godlike origin;

Now that we have established the meaning of Boaz, let’s take a look at the meaning of Jachin which if Boaz represents the Tribe of Judah and blood line of Jesus, my intuition tells me that Jachin will also represent a tribe and or bloodline.

What is the hidden meaning of Jachin?

As I stated above, Jachin means, ” He will establish.” But like Boaz, I have also found that it represents a blood line. Jachin in the bible you will find is the son of Simeon and was a grandson of Jacob and one of the seventy Israelites who immigrated to Egypt with Jacob. We can see who this is in Numbers 26:12 – The descendants of Simeon by their clans were: through Nemuel, the Nemuelite clan; through Jamin, the Jaminite clan; through Jakin, the Jakinite clan; Also in Genesis 46:10 The sons of Simeon: Jemuel, Jamin, Ohad, Jakin, Zohar and Shaul the son of a Canaanite woman.

Who was the bloodline and tribe of Jachin?

In Nehemiah 11:10 we find our answer; “From the priests: Jedaiah; the son of Joiarib; Jakin;

In 1 Chron. ix. 10 we find ‘Jedaiah, and Jehoiarib, Jachin.’ As these three are the names of well-known priestly houses (cf. 1 Chron. xxiv. 7, Jehoiarib the first, Jedaiah the second, Jachin the one and twentieth in the twenty-four). Then when you look in the bible, you will find that the name Jedidiah is mentioned only once in the Bible, and that it is the name which the prophet Nathan gave to Solomon (2 Samuel 12:25).

So, the pillar of Jachin would also represent the blood line of King Solomon, but an apparent different one than that of Boaz and the Tribe of Judah. Meaning King Solomon had two children that would apparently be split into two different tribes that are now represented in Freemasonry as the Pillars of Boaz and Jachin.

It was King David’s most important son, Solomon as I mentioned above was named Jedidiah that is also pronounced as Bedaiah,  which means a “servant of Yah or Jehovah.” He was the Israelite exile who had took a foreign woman. A son of Bani who had married a “strange wife” (Ezra 10:35).

Based on my research above, it is clear to me that Boaz represent the bloodline of King David through Solomon to Jesus Christ that Jesus would represent the complete succession of blood and royalty from King David down through King Solomon to Jesus.

The blood line of Jachin would represent the split o the Davidic blood line in which Davids son, King Solomon had intermarried with a “new bloodline”that we clearly see in Ezra 10:35 where Solomon is referred to the a son of Bani who had married a “strange wife”  and this is now represented in Jachin. Boaz being the Old Testament blood lines and Jachin being the New Testament blood lines.
