An apparent wanna-be bikini model mom had allegedly killed her demon hunter husband and then threw his body away like trash along a roadside in New South Wales, Australia.
The accused murderer, Raquel Hutchinson said that she “killed her husband to save children because he was a demonologist, exorcist and ghost hunter.” Her accomplices were an ex-lover and another man.
The Crown prosecutor, Margaret Cunneen said in court that a nine-year-old boy had witnessed Hutchison push her husband Bret down the stairs and spray his face with mold stain remover “Exit Mould.”
Yeah, you read that right – fricken mold killer!!
The boy later saw the man lying down in the bush bleeding before the victim’s body with his wife crouched near him screaming: “Confess or I’ll kill you.”
Text messages between the killers were presented as evidence showing a discussion between Hutchison and Wilkinson asking is the mold killer would act like mace.
And one of them texted: “S*** c***s always win except when someone stops them.”
The next day of Bret’s murder, Hutchison texted he ex-lover Wilkinson: “Game on, we man up”.
The Crown Prosecutor told the court that after the alleged killing, Ms. Hutchinson told a friend: “I’m fucked. I need help. We bashed him and we tied him up.”
Attorneys for Hutchison’s claimed that she was trying to save the children and that she was “mentally deficient” and suffered from a borderline personality order, post-traumatic stress disorder from her childhood and depression.
After the alleged murder, she told a psychiatrist: “He wasn’t supposed to die. I wanted him to go to jail.”
I think we need to ask ourselves who was protecting who from who here? Meaning, her husband was a demonologist and ghost hunter and she ended up committing what some may consider one of the most demonic or monstrous acts any person can commit which is cold-blooded murder ie: the killing of an innocent human.
Perhaps, Ms. Huchinson’s husband’s knowledge of demons threatened the evil demon or maybe it was just the Ego inhabiting her body. A jealous and murderous creature who eventually showed its vile nature when her husband got too close to the truth.
During the modern plague, we will see more and more of this crazy demonic behavior.
“However, they also may be transmitting diseases from one side of the globe to the other. The researchers found E. coli in their samples (which they think hurricanes lifted from cities), and they plan to investigate whether plagues are raining down on us.”
As part of my ongoing research on spirits, demons, and parasitic fungi/molds, I would like to present to you more current scientific articles and stories that correlate with some of my ancient research. (more…)
In a recent Science Daily article, Gut microbes may talk to the brain through cortisol, researchers from the University of Illinois College of Agricultural, Consumer, and Environmental Sciences explain how recent studies show that human gut microbes can influence human health, behavior, and certain neurological disorders, such as autism.
The authors of the study say that results from a new study suggest a pathway of communication between certain gut bacteria and brain metabolites, by way of a compound in the blood known as cortisol. And unexpectedly, the finding provides a potential mechanism to explain the characteristics of autism.” (more…)
A house desecrated by mildew, mold, or fungus would be a defiled place to live in, so drastic measures had to be taken. – Leviticus 14:45
The LORD said to Moses and Aaron, “When you enter the land of Canaan, which I am giving you as your possession, and I put a spreading mildew in a house in that land, the owner of the house must go and tell the priest, ‘I have seen something that looks like mildew in my house.’ The priest is to order the house to be emptied before he goes in to examine the mildew, so that nothing in the house will be pronounced unclean. Scientists are proving that communities of bacteria that live in most mammals’ guts are mostly passed down from mothers and also ancestors going 10 generations back, according to a new study in mice. Meaning, the same things that were in their stomachs, you may have the very same microbes, AKA microorganisms such as fungi/molds and bacteria which causes disease or fermentation.
This research is part of my ongoing studies into what I’ve coined as “DNA Gnosis,” and the demonic spirits of the air AKA Molds/Fungi. DNA Gnosis is the simple Gnostic science that proves we inherit talents, knowledge, physical traits and behaviors from our genes in which every ancestor who has gone before us plays a part in making our DNA. My belief is that these genes can both affect us positively and or negatively depending on how we decide to live our lives and now we are finding out that what we breathe and eat also plays a huge role in DNA Gnosis.
We can now say that we are or become what we eat and what our ancestors have eaten and that what we breathe and eat today is being transferred through the air and grafted in our guts. Meaning you can also breathe and eat these tiny organisms that surround us, which many are pathogens that have the ability to become part of you.
The big question and I think I know the scary answer is, “If they can graft onto our DNA, can they take us over as in possession of our genes – AKA bodies and brains?” Look around, I see and hear a lot of people who I suspect are weaponized pathogens disguised as humans.
Since I have been researching serial evil killers, Satanism, and people who like to sacrifice people and eat their flesh, it made me immediately wonder, “What if that ancestor ate humans?” Just imagine the implications and DNA damage it may cause somewhere down the line in that person’s descendants?
And guess what I’m discovering? I have found that some modern-day serial killers actually have ancestors who were serial killers and mass murderers unbeknownst to them and law enforcement investigators.
More on that murderous DNA research later. For now, here is the science on how we can inherit the gut microbes of a tenth generation ancestor.
Horizontal gene transfer (HGT) or lateral gene transfer (LGT) is the movement of genetic material between unicellular and/or multicellular organisms other than by the (“vertical”) transmission of DNA from parent to offspring (reproduction).
These teachings in which I add modern science further develop what the ancient Gnostics who had called them the lords of darkness and the mischievousness of spirits of the air and the Gnostic Christians ie: Catholics who had considered them to be wicked spirits on high whose habitation was mainly the air which was said to be the mansion of evil spirits, of whom Satan (Great Dragon) is the chief.
The reason I add this history is that this is how they had talked back then and if they lived today, they would be incorporating this science into the outdated teachings. That is what real Gnostics do by the way…
The researchers (Moeller et al.) derived inbred mouse lines from two wild populations of mice with distinct microbiota and monitored the populations’ microbiomes for 3 years while they were kept in the same animal facility. The microbiota of the two mouse lineages remained distinct even after 10 generations.
Most microbiota genera transmitted vertically. Those taxa that transmitted horizontally through the shared environment of the animal facility tended to be those that include pathogens.
GUT MICROBE SPIRITS OF THE AIR
What really caught my eye in this research is that they found that oxygen plays a key role in assisting the bacteria to spread horizontally between mice and this bacteria tends to be related to species that cause sickness in humans.
You know, like molds/fungi or what some of our ancestors had called wicked spirits on high and Lords of Darkness?
Again, this is more science which validates my work
“Lateral Gene Transfer is not limited to bacteria. Scientists now recognize that microbes transfer DNA to the plants, fungi, and animals they infect or reside in, and conversely, human long interspersed elements (LINEs) have been found in bacterial genomes. Moreover, researchers have documented LGT from fungi to insects and from algae to sea slugs. There is a reason to believe that any two major groups of organisms—including humans—can share their genetic codes.”
“A new analysis published last year by Alastair Crisp of the University of Cambridge and colleagues found more than 130 traces of possible LGT events in the human genome—including the presence of fungal hyaluronan synthases, a fat mass and obesity associated gene (FTO), and the gene responsible for blood types (ABO).”
“They control everything here including the sun, that’s why it’s always dark. They can’t stand the light.” – Dr. Schreber
In the 1998 film, Dark City (IE: Dark Mind, Reptilian Brain = Parasite Left Brain), is about a group known as the “Strangers” (Archons, Fallen Angels) who live in the underworld (hell, unconscious mind) and are able to keep their parasitic grip on its human hosts above ground through a giant head (Satan, Devil, Great Serpent).
They are said to be an ancient parasitic alien race that is on the verge of extinction who seem to have unfathomable mental powers.
The main character, John Murdoch (Rufus Sewell) awakens in a hotel bathtub, suffering from amnesia (iGnosis/ignorance) and discovers the bloody horror scene of a corpse of what can be called a Satanically murdered (sacrificed to the demonic fungi) woman along with a bloody knife. He flees just as the Strangers show up to investigate the room.
The Strangers pursue Murdoch who eventually discovers that he has the Gnostic mind powers—which the Strangers also possess, and refer to as “tuning”—and he manages to use these powers to escape from them.
Murdoch meets Dr. Daniel Schreber (Kiefer Sutherland), who has the special Gnosis (knowledge) about the Strangers and he is also a bit crazy (schizophrenic). The mental capacity of Dr. Schreber gives him the inherent ability to see into their world. He explains to Murdoch that the Strangers are endangered extraterrestrial parasites who use humans as their hosts.
Dr. Schreber describes their abilities to alter physical reality like that of parasitic fungi/molds. The Doctors says in the film;
“They had mastered the ultimate technology – the ability to alter physical reality by will alone”.
They are telepathically connected to each other as “they share one group mind”.
They are most active at night, where the Strangers stop time and physically rearrange the city as well as changing people’s identities and memories. Having a hive mind, the Strangers have been experimenting with humans to analyze their individuality in the hopes that some insight might be revealed that would help their race survive.
It is interesting to note that the Strangers are most active when the people of the city are asleep or unconsciousness. The same thing can be said about parasitic organisms that reside in the human body who are most active at night to a global population is almost totally unaware of these interdimensional parasites that reside in their own bodies.
The crazy doctor writes about what he calls little men who are a few millimeters in height and are “invading his body because of his power.”
Schreber then says, “On some nights the souls finally dripped down onto my head, in a manner of speaking, in their hundreds if not thousands, as “little men”. I always warned them against approaching me, since I had become aware of the immensely increased power of attraction of my nerves.”
Another parasitic fungi/molds parallel is how the Strangers are able to manipulate the people of “Dark City” through this hive mind by working in unison to control the unconscious projections of its inhabitants. The Strangers have the ability to manipulate the unconscious humans and Dark City through a type of hive mind or collective conscious apparatus that is symbolized with a gigantic head with a clock inside.
This massive head is employed at night by the parasitic demons when the people of Dark City are sleeping AKA unconscious. This parasitic ability is observed during one scene when the Strangers conduct a tuning experiment with their collective will-power through the massive head, which opens to a clock at 9 p.m., which eventually turns to midnight.
Through this massive head, the Strangers create false memories (maya) for its unconscious slaves who are now controlled by the Strangers.
The main character, Murdoch’s task is to reawaken to who he truly is and activate his Gnostic abilities in order to escape the mind control grip of the Strangers (Archons) by exiting Dark City (Labirynth/Matrix) and defeating their leader AKA the Minotaur (Satan, Devil – AKA The Gigantic Head of the Fungi).
Apparently, Murdoch is some type of Gnostic Warrior who is able to Gno (know) the Strangers (Archons) and discover the Revelations that the city as an enormous space habitat (Fungi/Dark Matter) surrounded by a force field.
The Strangers bring the Gnostic Warrior, Murdoch to their home (fungal colony) beneath the city and force Dr. Schreber to imprint Murdoch with their collective memory (Fungi Gnosis), believing Murdoch to be the final result of their experiments. Schreber instead injects Murdoch with the memories (Gnosis) of his childhood where he learned who these Strangers were and how to defeat them using his genetic Gnostic abilities.
The Strangers use the bodies of dead people as vessels to move around. You can recognize them by their pale skin, and big bald heads. Their choice of clothing generally consists of a long black trench coat, black fedora, gloves, and boots, which give them a menacing appearance. Beneath their coats, they wear black leather suits of unique design made of different black leather pieces held together with a number of intricate straps, belts, and laces.
In the original form, they are bluish gelatinous tadpole-like creatures. Across the body section, they have a rounded mouth with lots of teeth and lots of tentacles.
They usually don’t use weapons, they can easily lift and throw a person several meters away with their telekinetic powers or make people sleep with telepathic ones. Their powers seldom fail them but if they do – for example, if for some inexplicable reason their opponent happens to be immune to them – they resort to somewhat cruder weapons, such as knives.
Even when inhabiting the human host, The Strangers have an aversion to water and light. When sprayed with water they burn and turn to dust, so if you mix these ingredients the nightmare starts to fade away.
Now that Murdoch has fully awakened to his illuminating Gnosis, he frees himself and goes to war with the Strangers, defeating their leader Mr. Book (Ian Richardson) in what can be described as a spiritual battle high above the city.
Murdoch defeats their leader Mr. Hand and informs him that the Strangers have been searching in the wrong place—the mind—to understand humanity. Murdoch turns the habitat toward the star (Jupiter) it had been turned away from, and the city experiences sunlight (illuminating phosphorus) for the first time.
The spiritual man has become the Messiah using the self-illuminating (alkalizing) power of the light (phosphorus) to kill off the remaining Strangers (fungi) and is liberated from Dark City.
Food for the Moon was first introduced into Western Culture by the Russian mystic of Greek descent, George Gurdjieff (1872-1949). The infamous concept was an integral aspect of the “Fourth Way,” which were Gurdjieff’s esoteric teachings on the spiritual development of man.
The idea of Food for the Moon deals with the paranormal aspect of the slavery of Humanity in which its organic energy serves as “food” for some the cosmic entity we know as the Moon and its parasites that we can not see at another level of existence ie: the paranormal/fourth dimension.
Gurdjieff said, “The Moon is actually a fragment of this Earth, which must now constantly maintain the Moon’s existence. Everything living on the Earth, people, animals, plants, is food for the Moon. The Moon is a huge living being feeding upon all that lives and grows on the Earth.”
In other words, I would simply say that earth and all its organisms’ energies are slaves to a super parasitical mind in the night sky – the Moon. A massive predator in the heavens sending armies of parasites in a chain descending down through the biosphere to Mother Earth in order prey on its host population – US.
Gurdjieff had stated that it was only through “self-remembering” that it was possible for an individual to escape being eaten by the Moon.
A form of Gnosis from the ancient book of Plato who had said all learning is remembering. Its as if these great teachers are telling us we all have the keys ie: knowledge/Gnosis within to free ourselves from the parasitical grips of the effects of the moon.
Gurdjieff’s’ Food derived from humans is said to by vibrations generated by intense human experiences such as fear and hate which formulate unique energies on the collective level which create war and other human tragedies. We could compare this to mass hypnosis of humankind on earth so we perform a Jim Jones type mass ritual self-suicide in order to feed the parasites who in turn feed the moon.
With man being less and less conscious of the spiritual realm ie: non-material, these energies that he does not understand and no longer consciously controls can easily be harvested by parasitical organisms. When I look to medieval art by the alchemists and Christian Mystics of yesteryear, I see these teachings clearly spelled out in the battle against the serpent and who Christians call the Great Dragon – Satan – defacto ruler of earth ie: material realm and flesh.
Failing to battle the influences of the moon and its soul-sucking parasites then leads to a type of super slave which causes mankind to act as a drone/zombie who can then perform meaningless work, fight wars and endure cataclysms in which a certain quota of energy vibration can be released into the air to be “Moon fed”.
Quite possibly or should I say prophetically, today we can measure how we are feeding the parasites/fungi and moon at a rapid pace thus increasing war and mayhem.
For example, in all the wars of the 20th Century, there have been estimated a total of approximately 123 million people who died of which, 37 million were military deaths, 27 million collateral civilian deaths, 41 million victims of “democide” (genocide and other mass murder) and 18 million victims of non-democidal famine. (Matthew White: Worldwide Statistics of Casualties, Massacres, Disasters and Atrocities)
Can we now say that we have succeeded in feeding the Moon?
THE MOONS PARASITICAL AND ANIMAL LIKE INFLUENCE ON HUMANS
The Latin word for the moon is Luna and this is where we get the word for irrational behavior and madness during certain phases of the Moon which we call “lunacy and lunatic.” This belief was so widespread that in the 1800’s England made the law titled the “Lunacy Act of 1842” which gave allowances for certain crimes committed during the full and new Moon.
This law was the first of its kind to distinguish a criminal from either being chronically insane as a result of genetics and culture or a lunatic whose crimes were the result of paranormal influences. This is officially when in the West, a person’s lunacy had resulted in a deranged criminal act because of the Moon’s power and thus could not be held accountable for his or her actions.
This gave rise to the myths of barking animal men we call “werewolves” Thousands of years before Gurdjieff had written about Food for the Moon and Ozzy barked at the Moon, Pythagoras had stated that “The whole air is full of souls which are called genii or heroes,” which he also believed that these souls in the air affected our thoughts, dreams and sent omens of health, sickness and disease.
These teachings later became known as “The Doctrine of the Transmigration of Souls or Doctrine of Disembodied Spirit” later became part of the mythical teachings of Gnosticism as the “counterfeit spirit or counterfeit daemon,” which we find in the Christian Scripture when Saint Paul refers to them as wicked spirits of the air in high places in Ephesians 6:11-13.
The Gnostic version is described in the Pistis Sophia (ie: Faith Wisdom) as a small power and soul which has power over our flesh and gains power by the sins and evil we commit. It gathers itself out of the portion of evil (ie: sins/lusts/passions) that resideth in the body.
This sin and evil we vibrate from our beings would then create dark energy vibrations for the spirits of the air in high placed which would correspond exactly with Gurdjieff’s teachings on Food for the Moon.
While looking into the science of Food for the Moon, one of Gurdjieff’s disciples, Pyotr Demianovich Ouspenskii, had once written, “Everything that dies, from bacteria to man, then divides in two. One part of its organism remains on earth and enters in earth and produces many different effects on the surface of earth, and the other part is attracted by the moon and feeds moon. So part of us, when we die, feeds moon—but not only man—all organic life also.”
I have written and talked extensively about the science and effects of parasitical fungi/molds and also how they can be found in space both here on the Gnostic Warrior and for my business Mold Safe Solutions. For example, I had written previously about how a team of scientists from the Georgia Institute of Technology discovered billions of tiny organisms such as bacteria and fungi 33,000 feet in the air after they flew six miles above Earth’s surface in a NASA jet plane and pumped outside air through a filter to collect particles.
This may be the very reason why NASA announced in July 2017 that it is preparing to fight fungus (mold) in space and on other planets. An article from CNET states that NASA is investigating fungi in space as an enemy of astronaut health.
The author cites a study published Monday in the journal Microbiome shows that when you add humans to the type of enclosed habitats that could one day be used on the moon or other planets like Mars, it can give a boost to the community of fungal stowaways known as the mycobiome.
The researchers claimed that certain fungi seemed to thrive once humans were added to the ILMAH, including some that can colonize the body and cause allergies, asthma or infections, particularly in people with decreased immune systems like astronauts.
More recently in March 2018, NASA said its search for alien life may have a fungus problem due to extraterrestrial sample yielding a particularly large number of fungi, of the same general group of species as the mold that inspired the drug penicillin. In certain conditions, these fungi can produce a few flavors of amino acids—the building blocks of proteins—that are quite rare on Earth and are therefore often assumedto be extraterrestrial.
Looking back at these teachings, I believe that we can now say that science is verifying what Gurdjieff called Food for the Moon, Pythagoras had said 2500 years earlier that the whole air is full of souls, the Gnostics called counterfeit spirits, and Saint Paul called the spirits of the air in high places.
In May 2016, approximately 80 school students from a small village in northern Peru mysteriously started convulsing, screaming and many described visions of a man in black trying to kill them. Local villagers are claiming it was a case of ‘demonic possession’,
It’s no wonder, turns out the Elsa Perea Flores School in Tarapoto was said to be built on a Mafia graveyard.
Disturbing video footage shows students aged 11-14 years-old fainting, screaming and spitting froth from their mouths. One pupil told the media, “It’s disturbing for me to think about it. It’s as if someone kept on chasing me from behind.
‘It was a tall man all dressed in black and with a big beard and it felt like he was trying to strangle me.
‘My friends say I was screaming desperately, but I don’t remember much.’
Other schoolgirls also complained of similar experiences.
Another anonymous girl said, “Several children from different classrooms fainted at the same time. I got nauseous and started vomiting. I heard voices. A man in black chased me and wanted to touch me.”
Paranormal investigator, Franklin Steiner said, “It is known that years ago there were many victims of terrorism here. When this school was built, some say bones and dead bodies were found.”
A local media channel, The Mirror said that the students had been suffering from a “contagious condition” and even talk about breathing in vapors since last month.
Doctor Antony Choy stated that his team could not find a scientific reason behind the students’ unusual behavior.
“We don’t understand how this has kept on going on. We know it started on 29th April and now it is still happening. Now there are almost 80 pupils [still affected].”
Outside their Temple carved in stone were the ancient Gnostic maxims, “Know Thyself” and “Nothing in Excess”. For more than 1,100 years, they were some of the most powerful people to have ever rule the globe from what was once known as the center, naval, and soul of the world on the Holy Island of Crete.
It was here where the High Priestess of Pythia would speak mysterious prophecies as she sat atop the tripod with her legs spread and no undergarments as the vapors creeped into her mouth, nostrils, and vagina from the pit below. The name Pythia is derived from Pytho, which is derived from púthein – meaning “to rot”, and is said refers to the sickly smell of the decomposition of the body of the monstrous Python after she was slain by Apollo.
Upon the altar in the Temple burned sweet incense to hide the pungent smell of the misty smoke and the walls and roof were covered all over with laurel garlands. Intoxicating fumes would rise from deep within a small cavern in the ground at the center of the temple where there stood a high tripod, on which the High Priestess – Pythia, took her seat whenever the oracle was to be consulted.
The tripod was perforated with holes that allowed the vapors to completely envelop the Pythia. As she straddled herself over the tripod with her legs spread wide allowing the spirits of the vapors to enter into her bodily orifices, which caused her body to enlarge, her hair stand on end, her complexion changed, her heart panted, her bosom swelled and her voice became seemingly more than human.
These mysterious vapors would completely change the Priestess into another being that they believed could prophesy and tell the future. This smoke rising from the pit affected her body and brain in such a manner that she fell into a state of what can possibly be described today as “religious ecstasy” or “speaking in tongues.”
Here is an ancient depiction from a scene of the Delphic Oracle which shows the Pythia Priestess enveloped in serpents alongside Athena and Pylades and Erinyes (330 BCE). In Greek mythology, the Erinyes, also known as Furies, were female deities of vengeance who were sometimes referred to as “infernal goddesses.”
These were the first prophets (prophētai,προφῆται”, singular prophētēs) – meaning “one who speaks on behalf of another person” and I believe from these virgin women, the Lord and his Apostles were born.
Speaking of the rotting carcass of Pytho, Pausanias relates a text where she is called “the great and terrible monster, the nurse of Typhon, who devastated the land”, which I speculate could have been in reference to the previous religion and or cult of the Cretans being centered upon the Great Mother and nature who represented the earth but after her death, she represented death and war, for now, the vapors from her rotting carcass of a religion encompass the whole earth in a dark mist.
Pausanias writes in the first person how Apollo slew Pytho;
“Here,” says Apollo, “ will I build a splendid temple to be an oracle for men ; they shall bring hecatombs from the Peloponnesus, from Europe, and from the isles, and I will make revelations unto mortals in my sanctu~ my.” Having thus spoken, Phoebus Apollo laid the foundations, and upon them Tropho~ nice and Agamedes, sons of Erginus, placed the stone threshold, aided by countless tribes of men, and raised the temple with polished blocks of stone.
And hard by there was a spring of pure water, guarded by a she-dragon, a great and terrible monster, the nurse of Typhon, who devastated the land ; and the Lord Apollo slew her with his sharp arrows, and, having slain her, he mocked her and said: “ There lie and rot upon the ground.
No longer shalt thou be a scourge to my worshippers. Neither Typhoeus nor the dread Chimaera shall save thee from death, but here shall the black earth and the sun god Hyperion cause thee to rot.” So he spake exalting, and darkness covered her eyes, and the sun caused her body to rot, whence the place is now called Pytho, and the Lord Apollo the Pythian.
In The Travels of Lycurgus, it speaks of his arrival at Delphos to consult the oracle of Apollo, who he states is worshipped there under the name of Pythian, from the serpent Python, which he killed. It is written;
“Over the vent of the cavity a tripod is placed, which the Pythia, or priestess, mounts, when consulted, and from which she gives the oracle. The priestess was a long time preparing by sacrifices and purifications a fast of three days and other ceremonies before she ascended the tripod. I presented my offering: the Pythia mounted the sacred tripod, and the god denoted his approach by the agitation of a laurel that stands before the gate of the temple, which shook to its very foundations.
No sooner had the divine vapour, like a penetrating fire, diffused itself through the veins of the priestess, than her hair stood erect, and her looks grew wild and furious; she foamed at the mouth; a sudden and violent tremor convulsed her whole frame, and all the symptoms of distraction and frenzy were marked upon her countenance. She eyed me with fixed attention, and exclaimed:
“A friend of the gods, and rather a god than a man!” Here she ceased: her lips trembled, and she appeared agonized with the divine spirit that inflamed her soul. At length she again burst out into this exclamation:
“O Spartan! O favored of the gods! thy country shall flourish as long as the laws, which thou art about to establish, shall flourish: it shall become the most glorious and potent”
He concludes, “The words here died upon her lips; she gasped for breath and was led, pale and trembling, to her cell. I departed, satisfied with the answer that I had received.”
In my opinion, these mysterious vapors that were said to be from the rotting body of the serpent relate to fungi/molds that resided in these pits of which, “I will say no more.”
The 1st century BC Cretan historian, Diodorus Siculus tells of the mythology of the Oracle of Delphi that it was founded by a goat herder named Coretas who fed his flocks on Mount Parnassus. As the animals wandered here and there in pursuit of food, they “happened to approach a deep and long chasm in the rock.
From this chasm, a vapor issued, and the goats had no sooner inhaled a portion of the vapor than they began to play and frisk about with singular agility. The goatherder observing this, and curious to discover the cause, held his head over the chasm and in a short time the fumes having ascended to his brain, he threw himself into a variety of strange attitudes and uttered words which were supposed to have a prophetic meaning.
A temple was then erected on the spot, and dedicated to Apollo which is known as the Oracle of Delphi.
The word oracle comes from the Latin verb ōrāre, “to speak” and properly refers to the priest or priestess of Pythia uttering the prophecy containing the revelations of the God Apollo which were written down and interpreted by the priests who afterward communicated to the persons who had come to consult the oracle.
How the word delphi is connected to the dolphin and Apollo is described in an old Delphian or Pythian oracle. “It is open to students to regard the dolphin as only one of the many animals whose earlier worship is concentrated in Apollo, or to take the creature for the symbol of spring when seafaring becomes easier to mortals, or to interpret the dolphin as the result of a volks-etymologic (popular derivation), in which the name Delphi (meaning originally a hollow in the hills) was connected with delphis, the dolphin.” — Lang, Myth, Ritual, etc., 2,197.
The Science of the Vapors Which Produce Prophecy
It appears that the vapors arising from the pit are the source or cause of the action of prophecy for the priests and priestesses but the science as to how this occurred is still being debated. The early Christian Church Fathers said the purpose of the oracles were for demons which allowed to assist them to spread idolatry; so that the need for a savior would be more evident.
Other researchers had speculated that the vapors and subsequent oracles were the results of some type of narcotic or sulphuric compound such as gas emissions from a geologic chasm in the earth. Some researchers suggest the possibility that it might be ethylene gas, methane, CO2, or H2S.
A new theory is based on oleander, most commonly known as nerium. Apparently, a researcher has put forth erroneous claims that it causes symptoms similar to those of the Pythia and similar to those of epilepsy, the “sacred disease.” In my opinion, this explanation is false because nerium does not produce the same effects and this has been proven by science.
Ingestion of this plant does poison humans producing toxic effects such as nausea, vomiting, excess salivation, abdominal pain, diarrhea, irregular heart rate, drowsiness, tremors or shaking of the muscles, seizures, collapse, and even coma that can lead to death. But the facts are that it does not make you hallucinate and only one human death from oleander/nerium has ever been recorded.
The most commonly accepted explanation is the one made by Plutarch who said that the vapors from the Kerna spring waters that flowed under the temple. In my opinion, Plutarch’s official “public explanation” would have been purposely misleading due to the fact that he was a High Priest who would also know the secret operations, ingredients and even the science of the Delphic Oracle which he would have been under an oath of secrecy not to divulge.
What I have found in my research is that the leaves of the oleander/nerium plant’s are prone to fungus/mold infections.
I believe that the vapors were the result of a process of rotting flesh which contained various organisms such as fungi/molds that we know today have the ability to take over other organisms and also produce hallucinating and delirious effects. An example would be the fungus ergot which contains lysergic acid as well as its precursor, ergotamine – the ingredients for the famous hallucinogenic drug- LSD. I will expand more on this theory in a future article.
It was reported that the Pythia of the Oracle of Delphi was always a “native of Delphi” or of the native land in which the oracles were consulted. I believe they did this because these people would have always been considered as representing the earth or “earthborn” as some of the oldest inhabitants on earth so in their minds, these natives would have DNA coming from the same said lands so they would naturally be closer to the source of our origins which came from within the earth.
This is why we find in almost all ancient secret initiation rituals were conducted inside caves such as one of the most famous in antiquity is the cave of Zeus at Mt. Ida on Crete. The same cave where Epimenides Gnosis would awaken from a 57-year slumber to go to purify Athens to then become the founder of the Orphic (Ophite/Levite) Religion and later Pythagoras would spend three days alone as part of his initiation rites of Knossos to become a leading Gnostic of the Pythagoreans.
In the early stages of the development of their religion, young virgin girls who were never allowed to marry were utilized as oracles. Diodorus explains how the Pythia was always a clad young virgin with great emphasis on the girl’s chastity and purity to be reserved for union with the god Apollo but after one priestess had been seduced by Echecrates the Thessalian, the Delphians made a law that in future no one should be elected who had not attained the age of fifty years. He writes;
“Echecrates the Thessalian, having arrived at the shrine and beheld the virgin who uttered the oracle, became enamoured of her because of her beauty, carried her away and violated her; and that the Delphians because of this deplorable occurrence passed a law that in the future a virgin should no longer prophesy but that an elderly woman of fifty would declare the Oracles and that she would be dressed in the costume of a virgin, as a sort of reminder of the prophetess of olden times.”
One of the most famous Greek writers and philosopher, Plutarch was actually a High Priest of Apollo at Delphi during the late first century and early second century CE. He would have been in charge of overseeing the Cult, the priestesses, interpretations of the prophecies, conduct sacrifices at other festivals of Apollo, collect money for the Temple treasury and would have been an official of the Pythian games.
Plutarch said that the Pythia’s life was shortened through the service of Apollo. Apparently, being a Pythia was a very dangerous job because it was said to be common that the Pythia would go crazy after the ceremony as she often leaped from the tripod in mad convulsions (epileptic seizures?) and then would die soon after.
As the cult developed and the priests became more learned more about the dangers associated with divination, the priestesses were then chosen from poor families in the empire and there were always two Pythias, who took their seat on the tripod alternately, and a third alternate was kept ready in case one of the others went mad or died.
More on the Delphic Oracle Connection to Crete
The Oracle of Delphi may be connected to the more Ancient Cult of Rhea (Mother Earth/Cybelle/Rhea/Gaia/Magna Mater) on Crete which was based on honoring and serving God, nature and the earth. For example, one of the most important riteswas the doctrine of purification, which had its roots in Crete.
Thus the Delphic oracle was essentially Cretan Cult in character which I will prove below.
To the Ancient Cretans (Phoenicians), Greeks and in all countries around the Mediterranean, no religious institution in all of antiquity had obtained such a paramount influence, as the Oracle of Delphi. Delphi was the most famous place for this secret religion of the oracles of Zeus (Jupiter) which could also be found at Boetia, the Siwa Oasis, Dodona, and at Olympia.
In researching the origins of this religion, it appears to have originated on the Holy Islands of Crete and Delos which was said to have been the birthplace of Appollo who was the son of the God Zeus who was also born on Crete and hid in the mountain of the Hellenistic Jews – Mount Ida.
In the Delphi Complete Works of Diodorus Siculus, he had written that Apollo has been called Delian and Lycian and Pythian, and Artemis has been called Ephesian and Cretan and Tauropolian and Persian, although both of them were born in Crete.
Siculus said Apollo was the discoverer of the lyre and of the music which is got from it; that he introduced the knowledge of healing, which is brought about through the faculty of prophecy, whereby it was the practice in ancient times that the sick were healed; and as the discoverer of the bow he taught the people of the land all about the use of the bow, this being the reason why the art of archery is especially cultivated by the Cretans and the bow is called “Cretan.”
He further stated, “To Apollo and Coronis was born Asclepius, who learned from his father many matters which pertain to the healing art, and then went on to discover the art of surgery and the preparations of drugs and the strength to be found in roots, and, speaking generally, he introduced such advances into the healing art that he is honored as if he were its source and founder.”
A paean is a song, poem or hymn which expressed triumph or thanksgiving was sung during the religious ceremonies. In the MycenaeanLinear B tablets found on Crete, the word pa-ja-wo-ne is used as a name for a healer god which was later associated with Apollo and his son Asclepius.
Further connections to Crete can be found in the Homer’s Iliad in the Hymn to Apollo, in which Apollo himself is introduced conducting a band of Cretans (Phoenicians), who came from the city of Gnosis – Knossus, Krissa (Krisa/CreUSA). Apollo chose his first priests, whom he selected in their “swift ship” were “Cretans from Minos’ city of Knossos (Gnosis)” who were voyaging to sandy Pylos.
In the form of a dolphin (delphys”, gen. “delphinos), Apollo leapt into the ship and revealed himself to the terrified Cretans, and bade them follow him up to the “place where you will have rich offerings”. The Cretans “danced in time and followed, singing Iē Paiēon, like the paeans of the Cretans in whose breasts the divine Muse has placed “honey-voiced singing”.
These were Apollos Cretan priests of Pytho who we find as the head musician playing the lyre, and the Cretans follow beating drums and singing “paeans such as the Cretans sing to whom the divine muse has given the gift of sweet song.”
Historian, Professor G.L. Huxley had said, “If the hymn to (Delphic) Apollo conveys a historical message, it is above all that there were once Cretan priests at Delphi.”
These songs and dances I believe were for healing Thaletas was able to heal with his songs; Epimenides Gnosis was the magically gifted purifier and lawgiver who saved the Athenians and who after his death the Spartans held as a God. These paean hymns were also associated with the war and dances of the priesthood of the Curetes in Crete in honor of Zeus whom they were assigned as protectors. The Homeric Hymn expressly states that the Cretan priests sang paeans at their advent at Delphi, and were of a distinctly Cretan character.
While these myths seem fantastical to the casual researcher, these facts can also easily be backed by science because we know today that the Holy Island of Crete is known as the birthplace of Western Civilization and the ancient Cretans (Phoenicians) were very skilled in magic, religion, writing, war, music, and dancing which was “how the West was truly won.”
Historical evidence also states that the invention of the “paeonic meter” was consistently attributed to Crete” and its introduction into Greece was assigned to the Cretan Thaletas.” The poems of Archilochus (7th century BC) and ancient scholars mention it such as Alcman (7th century BC) and other poets who wrote in Sparta.
Later in the 5th century BC,Pindar also mentions the paeans and he was said to be especially fond of the Pythian Apollo of Delphi. The ancient Greek poet, Euripides speaks of the Delian women singing the paean in honor of Apollo and swaying in beautiful dance before the doors of the temple.
In the later days of Cicero and Plutarch, the Delphic Oracle began to lose its influence but was still continued to be consulted down to the times of the Roman Emperor Julian, until at last it was altogether banned by Roman Emperor Theodosius I who was the last emperor to rule over both the eastern and the western halves of the Roman Empire.
“And now the great image of me shall go under the earth……” – Dido
The following text is a chapter taken from The Three Books of Occult Philosophy by Henry Cornelious Agrippa. It is titled, “What concerning man after death, divers opinions.”
In this text, Agrippa details the ancient occult doctrines and opinions from various religions and Adepts throughout the Ages. I would like to point out where Agrippa shares some verses from different poems and mythologies that stood out in my mind as aligning with my work into the dark underworld of evil demons, disembodied spirits, and molds (fungi).
He first shares a verse from a poem by Lucretius who hath expressed:
What came from earth to earth returns again; What came from God, returns from whence it came.
The next verse is from a poem by Ovid who Agrippa said expressed it better when Ovid wrote:
Four things of man are spirit, soul, ghost, flesh; These four places keep and do possess.
The earth covers flesh, the ghost hovers over the grave, Orcus hathe the soul, stars do the spirit crave.
When speaking about when the spirit of man hath done ill, the spirt judgeth it, and leaves it to the pleasure of the devil, and the sad soul wanders about hell without a spirit, like an image, as Dido complains in Virgil:
And now the great image of me shall go under the earth……

CHAP. XLI. What concerning man after death, diverse Opinions.
IN general it is appointed for all men once to die; death is fatal to all; but one is natural, another violent, another voluntarily received, another inflicted by humane laws for offences, or by God for sin, that they seem not to have ren∣dred a due to nature, but a punishment for sins; which (as the Hebrew Masters saith) God remitteth to none;
Whence the Assembly delivered to Ezechiah, that after the house of the Sanctuary was pulled down, although there remained not any order of judiciary execution, yet there should be a four∣fold kind of punishment by the which they might be con∣demned, that no man guilty of death should escape without retaliation; for he which had deserved to be stoned to death, was, God dispensing, either cast down headlong from the house, or trodden in pieces by wild beasts, or overwhelmed by ruin or fall;
but he which had deserved to be burned, was either consumed by burnings, or finished his life either by venomous bitings, or stings of a serpent, or by poison; but he which should die by the sword, was killed either by the violence of the jurisdiction, or by the tumult of the people or faction, or by the treachery of thieves; he that ought to be hanged, was suffocated either in the waters, or extinguished by some other strangling punishment; and by the ground of this doctrine, that great Origen supposed the Gospel of Christ to be declared, He who useth the sword shall perish by sword.
Moreover the Ethnic Philosophers pronounced that retaliation of this kind is Adrastia, viz. an inevitable power of divine laws, by the which in courses to come, is recompensed to every one according to the reason and merits of his former life; so as he who unjustly ruled in the former life, in the other life should relapse into a servile state; he which hath polluted his hands with blood, should be compelled to undergo retaliation; he that lived a brutish life, should be precipitated and revolved into a brutish body; of these things Plotinus writeth in his book of the proper Genius of every one; saying, whosoever have kept humane propriety, do again arise men: but whosoever have used sense only, do return brute animals:
yet so, as those who use sense especially together with wrath, do arise wild beasts; but whosoever use sense by concupiscence and pleasure, do return treacherous and gluttonous beasts: but if they shall live, not by sense together with them, so much as by the degeneration of sense, plants grow up again with them; for the vitals only, or chiefly, are living; & all their care was that they might be turned into plants.
But they which have lived being too much allured by music, not being depraved in other things, are born again musical animals; and they which have reigned without reason, become Eagles unless they have been tainted with any wickedness. But he which hath lived civilly and virtuously returns as a man. And Solomon himself in the Proverbs calls man sometimes a Lion, Tiger, Bear, a Boar. Sometimes a Hare, a hunting dog, a Cony;
sometimes a Pismire, a Hedgehog, a Serpent, a Spider; some∣times an Eagle, a Stork, a Cock, or any other bird, and many such as these. But the Cabalists of the Hebrews do not admit that souls are turned into brutes: Yet they do not deny but that they that have wholly lost their reason, shall in another life be left to a brutish affection and imagination: they assert also that souls are revolved hither thrice, and no more; because this number seems sufficient to suffice for the purgati∣on of sins, according to that of Job, He hath delivered my soul that it should not proceed to death, but should live, and see the light. Behold all these things doth God work three times through each, that he might reduce their souls from corruption, and illuminate them with the light of the living. But now let us see what the Ancients opinion is concerning the dead.
When man dies, his body returns into the earth, from which it was taken: the spirit returns to the heavens, from whence, it descended, as saith the Preacher, The body returns to the earth from whence it was, & the spirit returns to God that gave it; which Lucretius hath expressed in these verses;
What came from earth to earth returns again;
What came from God, returns from whence it came.
But Ovid expresseth it better in these verses.
Four things of man there are; Spirit, Soul, Ghost, Flesh;
These four lower places keep and do possess.
The earth covers flesh, the Ghost hovers over the grave.
Orcus hath the soul, Stars do the spirit crave;
The flesh being forsaken, & the body being defunct of life, is called a dead Carcass; Which as say the divines of the Hebrews, is left in the power of the Demon Zazel, of whom it is said in the Scripture, Thou shalt eat dust all thy daies; and els∣where, The dust of the earth is his bread.
Now man was created of the dust of the earth, whence also that Demon is called the lord of flesh, and blood, whilest the body is not expiated and sanctified with due solemnities. Hence not without cause the Ancients ordained expiations of Carcasses, that that which was unclean might be sprinkled with holy water, perfumed with incense, be conjured with sacred orations, have lights set by, as long as it was above ground, and then at length be buried in a holy place.
Hence Elpenor in Homer, I beseech thee (saith he) Ulysses, be mindful of mee, and leave mee not unburied, lest being unburied I become an ob∣ject of the Gods wrath. But the spirit of a man, which is of a sacred nature, and divine-offspring; because it is always faultless, becomes incapable of any punishment; But the soul if it hath done well, rejoiceth together with the spirit, and go∣ing forth with its Aerial Chariot, passeth freely to the quires of the Heroes, or reacheth heaven, where it enjoys all its senses, and powers, a perpetual blessed felicity, a perfect knowledge of all things, as also the divine vision, and possession of the kingdom of heaven, and being made partaker of the divine power bestows freely divers gifts upon these inferiors, as if it were an immortal God.
But if it hath done ill, the spirit judgeth it, and leaves it to the pleasure of the divel, and the sad soul wanders about Hell without a spirit, like an image, as Dido complains in Virgil;
And now the great image of mee shall go
Under the earth—
Wherefore then this soul being void of an intelligible es∣sence, and being left to the power of a furious phantasy, is ever subjected by the torment of corporeal qualities, know∣ing that it is by the just judgement of God, forever deprived of the divine vision (to which it was created) for its sins: the absence of which divine vision, as the Scripture testifies, is the ground of all evils, and the most grievous punishment of all, which the Scripture calls the pouring down of the wrath of God. This image therefore of the soul enters into the ghost as an Aerial body, with which being covered doth sometimes advise friends, sometimes stir up enemies, as Dido threatens Aeneas in Virgil saying.
I’ll hunt thee, and thee tortures I will give.
For when the soul is separated from the body, the perturbations of the memory and senses remain.
The Platonists say, that the souls, especially of them that are slain, stir up ene∣mies, mans indignation not so much doing of it, as the divine Nemesis and Demon foreseeing, and permitting of it. So the spirit of Naboth (as the masters of the Hebrews interpret it) because in the end of its life it went forth with a desire of revenge, was made, to execute revenge, the spirit of a lye, and went forth, God permitting it, a lying spirit in the mouth of all the prophets, until it made Achab go up unto Ramoth-Gilead And Virgil himself together with the Pythagoreans, and Platonists, to whom also our Austin assents, confesseth that separated souls retain the fresh memory of those things which they did in this life, and their will, whence he sings;
What care they Living had of horses brave
And Arms, the same doth follow them to the grave.
And Azazel in his book De Scientia Divina, and other Arabians, and Mahumatists which were Philosophers, think that the operations of the soul, being common to the con∣joyned body, impressed upon the soul a Character of use and exercise, which it being separated will use, being strongly im∣pressed to the like operations and passions which were not de∣stroyed in lifetime. And although the body and organ be corrupted, yet the operation will not cease, but like affections and dispositions will remain. And these souls the ancients call with a common name Manes, whereof those that were in this life innocent, and purified by moral virtues, were very happy; And of them as Virgil sings,
—That did for their country die,
With priests who in their lives vowed chastity,
And sacred Poets, who pleased Phoebus best,
Or by invented arts mans life assist,
And others in their memories renowned,—
Although they departed this life without the justification of faith, and grace, as may Divines think, yet their souls were carried without any suffering into happy pleasant fields; and as saith Virgil,
They went to places and to pleasant greens,
And pleasant seats the pleasant groves between.
Where they enjoy certain wonderful pleasures, as also
sensitive, intellectual and revealed knowledge;
also per∣haps they may be indoctrinated concerning faith, and justifi∣cation, as those spirits long since to whom Christ preached the Gospel in prison. For as it is certain that none can be saved without the faith of Christ, so it is probable that this faith is preached to many Pagans and Saracens after this life, in those receptacles of souls unto salvation, and that they are kept in those receptacles, as in a common prison, until the time comes when the great Judge shall examine our actions.
To which opinion Lactantius, Ireneus, Clemens, Tertullian, Austin, Ambrose, and many more Christian writers do assent. But those souls which are impure, incontinent, depart wicked, do not enjoy such happy dreams, but wander full of most hideous Phantasmes, and in worser places, en∣joying no free knowledge but what is obtained by concession, or manifestation, and with a continual fleshly desire are subjected by reason of their corporeal corruption to the sense of pain, and fear swords, and knives.
These without doubt Homer seemed to be sensible of, when in the eleventh book of his Odysseus he brings in the mother of Ulysses being dead, standing near to him offering sacrifice, but neither knowing him, or speaking to him, whilst he with his sword drawn did keep off ghosts from the blood of the sacrifice.
But after that Tyresia the prophetess advising of her, she had tasted of the sacrifice and had drunk the blood, she presently knew her son, and crying spake to him. But the soul of Tyresia the prophetesses, notwithstanding the drawn sword, even be∣fore she tasted the blood, knew Ulysses, and spake to him, and shewed him the ghost of his mother standing near to him. Whatsoever vices therefore souls have committed in the bo∣dies unexpiated in this life, they are constrained carrying the habits of them along with them, to purge themselves of them in hell, and to undergo punishment for them; which the Poet explains in these verses;
—When they die,
Then doth not leave them all their misery.
They having not repented of their crimes,
Must now be punished for their misspent times.
For as the manners and habits of men are in this life, such affections for the most part follow the soul after death, which then calls to mind those things which it did formerly do in its life, and then more intently thinks on them, for as much as then the divers offices of life cease, as those of nourishing, growing, generating, and various occupations of senses, and humane affairs and comforts, and obstacles of a grosser body.
Then are represented to the plantastick reason those species, which are so much the more turbulent and furious, by how much in such souls there lies hid an intellectual spark more or less covered, or altogether extinct into which are then by evil spirits conveyed species either most false, or terrible: whence now it is tormented in the concupiscible faculty, by the concupiscence of an imaginary good, or of those things which it did formerly affect in its life time, being deprived of the power of enjoying them, although it may seem to itself sometimes almost to obtain its delights, but to be driven from them by the evil spirits into bitter torments, as in the Poets, Tantalus from a banquet, Sardanapalus from embraces, Midas from gold, Sisyphus from power; and they called these souls hobgoblins, whereof if any taking care of household affairs lives and inhabits quietly in the house, it is called a household god, or familiar.
But they are most cruelly tortured in the irascible saculty with the hatred of an imaginary evil, into the perturbations whereof, as also false suspicions, and most horrible Phantasmes they then fall, and there are represented to them sad representations; sometimes of the heaven falling upon their head, sometimes of being consumed by the violence of flames, sometimes of being drowned in a gulfe, sometimes of being swallowed up into the earth some∣times of being changed into divers kinds of beasts sometimes of being torn and devoured by ugly monsters, sometimes of being carried abroad, through woods seas, fire, air, and through fearfull infernal places, and sometimes of being taken, and tormented by devils.
All which we conceive happens to them after death no otherwise then in this life to those who are taken with a phrensie, and some other melancholy distemper, or to those who are affrighted with horrible things seen in dreams, and are thereby tormented, as if these things did really happen to them, which truely are not reall• but only species of them apprehended in imagination: even so do horrible representations of sins terrifie those souls after death as if they were in a dream and the guilt of wickedness drives them headlong through divers places; which therefore Orpheus calls the people of dreams, saying, the gates of Pluto cannot be unlocked; within is a people of dreams; such wicked souls therefore enjoying no good places, when wandring in an Aeriall body, they represent any form to our sight, are called hags, and goblins, inoffensive to them that are good, but hurtfull to the wicked, appearing one while in thinner bodies another time in grosser, in the shape of divers animals, and monsters, whose conditions they had in their life time, as sings the Poet,
Then divers forms and shapes of brutes appear;
For he becomes a tiger, swine, and bear,
A scaly dragon, and a lioness,
Or doth from fire a dreadful noise expresse;
He doth transmute himself to divers looks,
To fire, wild beasts, and into running brooks.
For the impure soul of a man, who in this life contracted too great a habit to its body, doth by a certain inward affection of the elemental body frame another body to itself of the vapours of the elements, refreshing as it were from an easier matter as it were with a suck, that body which is con∣tinually vanishing; to which being moreover enslaved as to a prison, and sensible instrument by a certain divine Law, doth in it suffer cold, and heat, and whatsoever annoys the body, spirit, and sense, as stinks, howlings, wailings, gnashing of the teeth, stripes, tearings, and bonds, as Virgil sang;
—And therefore for their crimes
They must be punished, and for misspent times
Must tortures feel; same in the winds are hung,
Others to cleanse their spotted sins are flung
Into vast gulfs, or purged in fire—
And in Homer in his Necyomancy Alcinous makes this rela∣tion to Ulysses,
Of Tytius the dear darling of the earth,
We saw the body stretched nine furlongs forth
And on each side of whom a vultur great
Gnawing his bowels—
These souls sometimes do inhabit not these kinds of bodies only, but by a too great affection of flesh and blood trans∣mute themselves into other animals, and seise upon the bo∣dies of creeping things, and brutes, entering into them, what kind soever they be of, possessing them like Demons.
Pythagoras is of the same opinion, and before him Trisme∣gistus, asserting that wicked souls do oftentimes go into creep∣ing things, and into brutes, neither do they as essential forms vivifies and inform those bodies, but as an inmate dwell there as in a prison, or stand near them by a local in distance as an internal mover to the thing moved; or being tied to them are tormented, as Ixion to the wheels of serpents, Sysiphus to a stone; neither do they enter into brutes only, but sometimes into men, as we have spoken concerning the soul of Nabaoth which went forth a lying spirit in the mouth of the Prophets.
Hence some have asserted that the lives, or spirits of wicked men going into the bodies of some men, have disturbed them, and sometimes slew them. Which is more fortunately granted unto blessed souls that like good Angels they should dwell in us, and enlighten us, as we read of Elias, that he being taken from men his spirit fell upon Elisha: and elsewhere we read that God took of the spirit which was in Moses, and gave it to 70. men.
Here lies a great secret, and not rashly to be revealed.
Sometimes also (which yet is very rare) souls are driven with such a madness that they do enter the bodies not only of the living, but also by a certain hellish power wander into dead Carkasses, and being as it were revived commit horrid wickednesses, as we read in Saxo Grammaticus, that Asuitus and Asmundus two cerrain men vowed one to the other, that he that should live longest should be buried with him that was first dead: at length Asuitus being first dead, is buried in a great vault with his dog, and horse, with whom also Asmundus by reason of his oath of friendship, suffered himself to be buried alive, (meat which he should for a long time eat, being brought to him;) in processe of time Eri∣cus King of Suecia passing by that place with an army, breaking up the tomb of Asuitus (supposing that there was treasure) the vault being opened, brought forth Asmundus: whom, when he saw having a hideous look, being smeared over with filthy corrupt blood which flowed from a green wound (for Asuitus being revived, in the nights, took off with often strugling his right ear) he commanded him to tell him the cause of that wound: which he declares in these verses;
Why doth my visage wan you thus amaze?
Since he that lives amongst the dead, the grace
Of beauty needs must loose; I know not yet
What daring Stygian fiend of Asuit
The spirit sent from hell, who there did eat
A horse, and dog, and being with this meat
Not yet suffie’d, then set his claws on me,
Pull’d off my cheek mine ear, and hence you see
My ugly, wounded, mangled bloody face;
This monstrous Wight returned not to his place
Without received revenge; I presently
His head cut off, and with a stake did I
His body thorough run—
Pausanias tells a story not unlike to this, taken out of the interpreters of the Delphi; viz. that there was a certain infernal Demon, which they called Eurinomus, who would eat the flesh of dead men, and devour it so that the bones would scarce be left.
We read also in the Chronicles of the Creten∣sians, that the ghosts which they call Catechanae were wont to return back into their bodies, and go in to their wives, and lie with them; for the avoiding of which, and that they might annoy their wives no more, it was provided in the common lawes that the heart of them that did arise should be thrust thorow with a nail, and their whole carcass be burnt. These without a doubt are wonderful things, and scarce credible, but that those laws, and ancient Histories make them credible.
Neither is it altogether strange in Christian Religion that ma∣ny souls were restored to their bodies, before the universal resurrection. Moreover, we believe that many by the singular favour of God are together with their bodies received to glory, and that many went down alive to hell. And we have heard that oftentimes the bodies of the dead were by the devils taken from the graves, without doubt for no other use then to be imprisoned, and tormented in their hands.
And to these prisons and bonds of their bodies there are added also the possessions of most filthy and abominable places, where are Aetnean fires, gulfs of water, the shakings of thunder, and lightning, gapings of the earth, and where the region is void of light, and receives not the rays of the Sun, and knows not the light of the Stars, but is always dark. Whi∣ther Ulysses is reported in Homer to come, when he sings,
Here people are that be Cymmerian named,
Drown’d in perpetual darkness, it is famed,
Whom rising, nor the setting sun doth see,
But with perpetual night oppressed be.
Neither are those meer fables which many have recorded of the cave of Patricius, of the den of Unlcan of the Aetnean caves, and of the den of Nursia, many that have seen and know them testifying the same. Also Saxo Grammaticus tells of greater things then these of the Palace of Geruthus, and of the cave of Ugarthilocus:
Also Pliny, Solinus, Pythias, Clearchus, of the wonderful prodigies of the Northern sea, of which Tacitus also in his history of Drusus shows that in the German sea there wandered souldiers by whom divers mi∣raculous unheard of things were seen, viz. the force of whirlpools, unheard of kinds of birds, sea monsters like men and beasts; and in his book of Germany he tells that the Heldusians, and Axions, who had the face of men, but their other parts were equal to beasts, did dwell there. Which without all doubt were the works of ghosts and devils. Of these also Clau∣dianus long time since sang,
In th’eextream bounds of France there is a place,
Encompass’d by the sea, where in his race
Fame saith Ulysses having tasted blood,
A secret people did descry where loud
And mournful plaints were heard of wandering spirits
Which did the country people much affright.
Aristotle relates of the Aeolian Islands near Italy, that in Lipara was a certain tomb, to which no man could go safe by night, and that there were Cymbals and shrill voices with certain absurd loud laughters; also tumults and empty sounds made, as the inhabitants did strongly aver; and that up∣on a time a certain young man being drunk went thither, and about night fell asleep neer the cave of the tombe, and was after the third day found by them that sought him, and was taken up for dead; who being brought forth, the solemnities of the funeral being ready, suddenly arose up, and told in order, to the great admiration of all, many things which he had seen and suffered.
There is also in Novergia a certain mountain most dreadful of all, surrounded by the sea, which commonly is called Hethelbergius, representing Hell, whence there are heard great bewailings, howlings, and scratchings a mile round about, and over which great vaulters and most black. Crows fly, making most horrible noyses, which forbid any to come near it: Moreover from hence flow two foun∣taines whereof the one is most intense cold, the other most in∣tense hot, far exceeding all other elements.
There is also in the same country toward the Southern corner thereof a Pro∣montory called Nadhegrin, where the Demons of the place are seen by all, in an aerial body. There is also in Scotland the Mountain Dolorosus, from whence are heard dreadfull lamentations: and in Thuringia there is a mountain called Horrisonus, where dwelt Sylvani, and Satyrs, as fame and experience teacheth, and faithful writers testify. There are in divers Countries and Provinces such like miracles as these. I will not relate here those things which I have seen with mine eyes, and felt with mine hands, least by the wonderful admirableness & strangeness of them I should by the incredulous be accounted a liar.
Neither do I think it fit to pass by what many of our age think concerning the receptacles of souls, not much differing from these which we have now spoken of: of which Tertullian in his fourth book against the heresies of Marcion saith, It is apparent to evey wise man, which hath ever heard of the Elysian fields that there is some locall deter∣mination, (which is called Abrahams bosome) for the re∣ceiving of the souls of his sons, and that that region is not ce∣lestial, yet higher then hell, where the souls of the just rest, untill the consummation of things restore the resurrection of all things with fulnes of reward. Also Peter the Apostle saith to Clemens asking him of these things, thou dost constrain mee O Clemens to publish something concerning things unutterable: Yet as far as I may, I will.
Christ, who from the beginning & always was, was always through each generation, though secretly, present with the godly, with those especially by whom he was desired and to whom he did most often appear. But it was not time, that the bodies then being resolved, there should be a resurrection: but this rather seemed a remuneration from God, that he that was found just, should remain longer in a body, or that the Lord should translate him (as we see clearly related in the scripture of some certain just men.)
After the like example God dealt with others, who pleased him well, and fulfilling his will were being translated to Paradise reserved for a kingdom. But of those who could not fullfill the rule of justice, but had some relique of wicked∣ness in their flesh, the bodies indeed are resolved, but souls are kept in good and pleasant regions, that in the resurrection of the dead, when they shall receive their bodies, being now purg∣ed by resolution, they may enjoy an eternal inheritance for those things which they have done well. Ireneus also in the end of his book which he wrote against the Heresies of the Valentini∣ans, saith:
Whereas the Lord went in the middle of the sha∣dow of death, where the souls of the dead were, and after rose again corporeally, and after resurrection was taken up, it is ma∣nifest that the souls of his disciples (for whom he worked these things) should go to some invisible place, appointed by God, and there tarry until the resurrection, afterwards receiving their bodies, and rising again perfectly, i e. corporeally, as the Lord arose, so shall they come into the presence of God; for no disciple is above his master; But every one shall be perfect as his Master.
Therefore even as our Master did not present∣ly fly and go away, but expected the time of his resurrection determined by the father; which is also manifested by Jonas, after three daies arising he is taken up; So also ought we to expect the time of our resurrection determined by God, fore∣told by the Prophets; and so rising again we shall be taken up, as many as the Lord shall account worthy of this honor; Lactantius Firmianus also agreeth to this, in that book of Divine institutions, whose title is of Divine reward;
Saying, let no man think, that ••e souls after death are presently judg∣ed; for they are all detained in one common custody, until the time cometh in which the great Judge shall examine de∣serts; then they whose righteousness shall be approved, shall receive the reward of immortality: but they whose sins and wickedness are detected, shall not rise again, but being desti∣nated for certain punishment, shall be shut up with the wicked angels into the same darkness of the same opinion are Austine, and Ambrose, who sayth in his Enchiridion, The time which is interposed betwixt the death of man and the last resurrecti∣on, containeth the soul in secret receptacles; as every one is worthy of rest or sorrow, according to that which it obtai∣ned whilst it lived in the flesh; but Ambrose in his book con∣cerning the benefits of death, saith;
The writing of Esdras calleth the habitations of the souls, store houses; which he meting with the complaints of man (because that the Just who have gone before, may seem, even to the day of Judgement viz. for a long time, to be wonderfully defrauded of their just recompense of reward) doth liken the day of judgment to a garland; for the day of reward is expected of all, that in the mean time both the conquered may be ashamed, and the conquerors may attain the palme of victory; therefore while the fulnes of times is expected, the souls expect their due recompense; punishment remaining for some, glory for o∣thers; and in the same place he calleth Hell a place which is not seen, which the souls go to being separated from the bodies; And in his second book of Cain and Abel, he saith, the soul is loosed from the body, and after the end of this life, is even as yet in suspence, being doubtfull of the judgement to come; To these assenteth that evangelical saying, concer∣ning the last iudgment, Christ saying in Matthew, Many shall say to mee in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name, and in thy name cast out Devils?
And then I shall con∣fess to them, that I never knew them; by which speech it see∣meth to be clear, that even untill this day they were uncertain concerning their sentence, and by the confidence of miracles which they had performed in the name of Jesus, whilst they lived, to have bin in some hope of salvation; Therefore because the judgement of souls is deferred untill the last day, many Theologians think that satisfactory intercessions may help not only the Justified, but also the damned, before the appointed day of iudgment. So Trajan the Emperor was delivered from Hell by Saint Gregory, and Justified to salvation, though some think that he was not freed from the guilt of punishment, but the Justice of punishment was prorogued untill the day of iudgment;
But Thomas Aquinas saith it seemeth more pro∣bable, that by the intercessions of S. Gregory, Traian lived again, and obtained a gracious power by the which he was freed from the punishment and guilt of sin; and there are some Theologians who think, that by the Diriges for the dead nei∣ther the punishment nor the guilt is taken away or detracted, but that only some ease and asswagement of the pains is procured; and this by the similitude of a sweating porter, who by the sprinkling of some water seemeth to be eased of the weight of his burthen, or helped to carry it more easily, al∣though nothing of the burthen be taken off: Yet the common opinion of Theologians denieth that prayers or funeral Di∣riges do cause any favour for the guilty within the gates of Pluto: but seeing all these things are of an incomprehensible obscurity, many have vainly whet their wits in them:
Therefore we holding to the opinion of Austine, as he saith in the tenth book on Genesis, do affirm, That it is better do doubt concerning occult things, then to contend about uncertain things; for I doubt not but that that rich man is to be understood in the flames of pains, and that poor man in the refreshment of joyes; but how that flame of hell, that bosom of Abraham, that tongue of the rich man, that torment of thirst, that drop of cooling, are to be understood, it is hard∣ly found out by the modest searcher, but by the contentious never; but these things being for this present omitted, we hasten to further matters and will dispute concerning the restitution of souls.
