The symbol for fire is the upright triangle or pyramid. Fire is the very element of action, energy, power, creativity, red-trianglepassion, desire, and sexuality.

“Of the elements of the earth is this altar composed. It is the great cube of matter. On or in this altar burns Flame. It is this Flame that is the spirit of all created things. Man, know thyself. Thou art the Flame, and thy bodies are the living altar.” – Manly P Hall in Initiates of the Flame

This symbol is considered the active element or what is called the ‘masculine.’ An example of this masculine aspect of fire can be found in the biblical Cain who will be forever associated with his fiery temper in killing his brother Able, or Cain’s son, Tubal Cain who is the “forger of weapons” and a symbol of war or materialism.

The fire symbol represents the color red and its planets are the Sun (Sol), and Mars with its Zodiac signs being Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius. The symbol of fire’s season is summer and its time of day is noon (12pm). The magical tools of fire can be found in the sword, dagger, and also the magical wand.

The alchemical fire is within our bodies (temples) and our living cells, that is our life force with the active principle of activity and strength. Fire forges our body and souls through the furnace of life as it purifies and protects us from the dark in order to bring forth the light. Fire gives light, strength, and joy, but in the wrong hands, it can cause darkness, evil-doing, fear, sin and vice.

When we move into the fire in order to forge our paths on this earth, we can become consumed in a good way to the point of alchemical transformation, or the opposite could occur in which the fire can cause death through our own vice, bad actions and habits, or simply sin. A fire that can literally burn us alive by creating our own delirious passions and vice driven hells, or it can literally transform and forge our souls into perfection so that we then rise above the flames like the glorious ancient fire-bird, the phoenix.
