In this episode of the Gnostic Warrior, I interview modern Gnostic and researcher, Alexander Rivera. Alex is the publisher of the The Aeon Eye.com website that is dedicated to his research and ideas regarding scholarship in Gnosticism, theology, various ancient texts spanning different cultures of all ages, such as the Gnostic texts known as the Nag Hammadi Library and the Bible.
In this podcast Alex discusses what he defines as the meaning of Gnosis, and how he first became interested in the field of Gnosticism. He explains how he believes the bible with the Old and New Testaments were in reality Gnostic books.
Alex talks about the Nag Hammadi writings that were discovered in Egypt in 1945 forever changed our understanding of early Christianity. We also delve into secret teachings of Gnosticism, and how they are still present in the church today. Alex also discusses that women were also Gnostics, and that Gnosis is not just some men's only club.
The Aeon Eye, because “aeon” generally means “age” in Greek but also “eternal truth” and is a term that is used heavily in many mystical traditions. The “eye” is in reference to Plato’s Metaphor of the Sun in the Republic in which the mind’s eye is the vessel for “nous” or illumination.
When the mind’s eye rests on objects illuminated by truth and reality, it understands and comprehends them, and functions intelligently; but when it turns to the twilight world of change and decay, it can only form opinions, its vision is confused and its beliefs shifting, and it seems to lack intelligence.
